Milan sack Montella, Gattuso put in charge

AC Milan have sacked Vincenzo Montella from his role as manager, as the team’s disappointing start to the Serie A season continues. Milan are in seventh place- 18 points behind leaders Napoli- despite spending heavily in the summer, and could only draw at home to Torino at the weekend.

Despite their form in Europe being in impressive, the Rossoneri have only won twice in nine league games, and their draw against Torino was fourth game in a row where they’ve failed to score at home. Montella replaced former Milan midfielder Christian Broochi in 2016 he’ll now be replaced by another former Milan man in Gennaro Gattuso, who’s been promoted from the Primavera side.

Gattuso made over 400 appearances for Milan between 1999 and 2013, winning two league and European titles, and leaves the youth side in third place in the Primavera division
