Nigerian international Victor Moses’s first appearance at Camp Nou for Chelsea ended in a humbling defeat to Barcelona who advanced into the quarter finals with a 3-0 win on the night (4-1 on aggregate).
Moses and his Chelsea teammates were treated to Messi’s magical moments that culminated with the Argentine scoring two goals and assisting the other to ease past the premier league champions.
Messi started the move for his first goal, receiving the ball from Dembele before exchanging passes with Suarez before firing a right footed shot that went past Courtois at his near post.
That was followed by a Messi master class, after winning the ball from midfield, Messi beat two defenders and had the composure to hold on to the ball long enough to deliver a split pass to incoming Dembele who rifled home from inside the box to make it 2-0.
In truth Chelsea played better than the first leg but some players of the Premier League side were just poor on the night, Victor Moses was one of such players who failed to offer anything to the Blues in attack when he was in good positions.
Messi continued from where he stopped in the first half to net the killer goal as he ran past three stagnant Chelsea defenders to fire a low shot in-between the legs of goalkeeper Courtois who endured a terrible evening.
Moses was subbed off by coach Antonio Conte in the 67th minute, with Italian right back Davide Zappacosta taking his place.
Chelsea will next pit their wits against the duo of Nigerian team-mates Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the FA Cup quarterfinal on Sunday as they battle for their last opportunity to win a silverwear this season.
Meanwhile Lionel Messi who is set to face Victor Moses in the colours of Argentina at the World Cup has now reached the milestone of scoring a 100 goals in the UEFA Champions League with his brace on the night.
