Musa ready to hand Kalu Orji Pillars debut

Ahead of the crucial match day 18 Nigeria Professional Football League tie between Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Kano Pillars, head coach of the Kano based side; Ibrahim Musa has hinted new central defender, Kalu Orji is likely to play his first game for the club on Sunday.

Sai Masu Gida snapped up the highly rated CHAN Eagles and former Enugu Rangers defender after he terminated his contract with an Albanian first division side.

The 25-year old had since been unveiled and would finally don the colours of Kano Pillars against the surprise league leaders in Makurdi.

“Kalu has been in training for some days now and he has done well. First he has made the list of 18-man that traveled for this game and he’s in line to feature for us,” Musa told from the team’s base in Makurdi on Friday evening.

Kalu Orji was in line to make his debut match at home against Akwa United on matchday 16, but the fixture was postponed to allow the Promise Keepers prepare for their continental engagement against Al-Hilal of Sudan.

His signing has been described as a direct replacement for late Chinedu Udoji who passed away two months ago.

The player himself is excited about the prospect of a debut even as he hopes to make a quick impact on the club before his contract runs out at the end of the season.

“I’m with the team in Makurdi and I now hope to play my first game for the club on Sunday. I’m delighted and I’d like to thank the coach and the management for their trust,” said Orji.

The player’s home debut may likely be against Heartland of Owerri in a week’s time which will be the last game of the first stanza of the campaign.
