Nigeria ended their world cup qualifying campaign with an insipid one all draw with Algeria at the Mohamed-Hamlaoui stadium.
A dead rubber match perpetrated with below par performances.
NaijaFootballPlus.com Idris Shehu rates the Eagles performances.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa – 4
He had a terrible outing. His nightmare with aerial balls was revealed to a scary point. His calculation before leaping for aerial balls was faulty. Almost, literally, handed Algeria a goal when he let a cross off a corner-kick slip off his palms but Aissa Mandi headed over the bar.
Shehu Abdullahi – 5
He was one of the top performers in this game until he entangled himself with Yacine Brahimi and conceded a very controversial penalty. He limited the influence of the Porto midfielder on that right flank for most of the game while bursting forward to support the attack in between.
Leon Balogun – 5
He was a little edgy at the beginning of the game. Created some nervy moments with unsure touches that invited pressure onto him but he grew into the game and held firm against Islam Slimani.
William Troost-Ekong – 6
He was the stability factor when the initial jitters combed through the defense line. He was focused and combative all through the game.
Ola Aina – 5
He had an average game. Nipped the influence of Riyad Mahrez but his first touches and passes aren’t without faults and he will definitely need a better performance to usurp Echiejile from this position.
Wilfred Ndidi – 6
He had a good game. Stealing the ball a couple of times from the Algerians before doubling up to support the attack. He did his apportioned part of the game beyond average.
John Ogu – 7
He was having a quiet game until he curled that beauty into the right corner. Like lints, the goal lit up his game and his presence in the midfield showed.
Ogenekaro Etebo – 5
It was a disappointing show for the man charged with important linkage of the midfield with the attack. He misplaced several passes and those were when he was dallying on the ball.
Alex Iwobi – 6
One of top performers. He procured the best attempt of the game apart from the goal. A volleyed shot clawed by the Algerian goalkeeper.
Kelechi Iheanacho – 5
He was but a dead rubber on the flanks throughout the game. Save his good deliveries from dead balls, he had a poor game.
Antony Nwakaeme (4)
It was not the debut he would have dreamt of. He looked out of depth upfront, trying to bulldoze his way past the Algerian rearguards, was hauled off for Onyekuru.
Henry Onyekuru (5)
He came on, showed few glitters that he could glow if given enough playing time.
Ahmed Musa: N/A
He came on for Alex Iwobi.
