Nigeria rise five places in latest FIFA rankings as World Cup foes suffer drop

Football governing body, FIFA on Thursday, 12th April published the latest rankings for the national football teams of different countries and it was better fortunes for Nigeria.

Compared to the 52nd position they placed last month, the Super Eagles have climbed an impressive five places to sit 47th on the new rankings after one win and one loss in the most recent international week while they are placed sixth in the continent.

Tunisia, Senegal, Congo DR, Morocco and Egypt are the teams ranked ahead of Nigeria in Africa in that order.

The Super Eagles African Nations Cup Group opponents —South Africa, Libya and Seychelles are ranked a distant 72nd, 100th and 194th respectively while their Russia World Cup foes of Argentina, Croatia and Iceland plummeted downwards from their previous positions, with the Albiceleste now sitting fifth, Croatia 18th and the Icelandic nation 22nd.

Globally, 2014 world cup champions, Germany continue to lead the way, followed by Brazil and then Belgium and Portugal.

The next world rankings would be published by the official website of FIFA on 17th of next month.
