We conclude this week’s edition of the Nigerian players action report, with the summary of how the country’s exports faired across various leagues.

England – Premier League

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi and his Arsenal teammates kept up their poor away form in the League this season after throwing away the lead to lose 1-2 to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Iwobi who started the game brightly, quietly faded as the match went on, until Coach Arsene Wenger thought he had seen enough before bringing on Edward Nketiah to take his place in the 86th minute.

Spain – Primera Division

Striker Brown Ideye failed to inspire relegation bound Malaga to a result at home to under strength Champions Real Madrid who had enough to secure a 2-0 win over the basement side.

Ideye’s return after missing the previous three games for Malaga, also heralded the absence of Isaac Success who had featured in the games missed by his country man.

Maxime Lestienne took the place of Ideye in the 78th minute.

Netherlands – Eredivisie

There was no goal heroics from Nigerian Olympic football team bronze winning striker Sadiq Umar in the colours of NAC Breda who lost 1-2 to Willem II who on their own part left veteran Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche on the bench.

Sadiq on loan from As Roma huffed and puffed for 90 minutes with a 69th minute yellow card, summing up a bad day at the office for the striker.

Switzerland – Super League

Former MFM striker Stephen Odey is still finding it difficult to settle quickly at FC Zuerich. His 10 minutes appearance after replacing Antonio Marchesano was unproductive as they lost 0-1 to home side Young Boys.

Turkey – Super Lig

Super Eagles right back Abdullahi Shehu and midfielder Mikel Agu both started and saw full action for Bursaspor 1-2 loss to Goztepe.

Super Eagles central defender Troost Ekong was not in the match day squad with his national teammates.
Agu was cautioned in the 59th minute,

China – Super League

It’s a little embarrassing for Super Eagles first choice striker Odion Ighalo who fired blanks in Changchun Yatai’s 3-0 win over Henan Jianye.

Ighalo’s poor form in front of goal must be a source of concern for the coach of the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup in under 3 months.

Belgium – First Division

The Championship Playoff between Henry Onyekuru’s Anderlecht and Denis Bonaventure’s club Brugge was settled with a 52nd minute goal by Lukasz Teodorczyk of Anderlecht.

While Onyekuru was not fit enough to make the match day squad of Anderlecht, Bonaventure was an unused substitute for Club Brugge.

Ex Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala started for Oostende who let a 2 goal lead slip, to eventually draw 2-2 at home to St.Truiden.

The visitors had on the pitch, on loan Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom for the entirety of the match but he was not amongst the goals just like Akpala who was subbed off in the 71st for Oostende.

Austria – Bundesliga

The Wein derby was uncharacteristically a one sided affair with Rapid Wien thumping Austria Wien by 4-0.
Former Akwa United forward Alhassan Ibrahim who returned to the starting line up of Austria Wien, was quickly hauled off in the 55th minute after they conceded the 3rd goal of the game.
