Nigerian Players Watch : Missed results for Mikel, Moses Etebo, Umar and more

China – Super League:

Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi missed out on Tianjin Teda 2-1 away win over Hebei CFFC through injury, his Ghanaian teammate Acheampong made up for a missed penalty by scoring the winner after they recovered from going a goal down.

Scotland – Premiership:

Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose could not have asked for a better start to the season, after marshaling the defense line of Hibernian to help seal a 3-0 win over Motherwell.
Ambrose lasted the full game time without a booking.

Striker Sadiq Umar who is on loan from As Roma watched on from the bench as 10 men Rangers managed to grind out a 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen in coach Stephen Gerard’s first league game in charge of the club.

English Midfielder of Nigerian decent Ovie Ejaria also on loan from Liverpool, came on with eight minutes left in the place of Ryan Jack.

Switzerland – Super League:

Former MFM FC hot shot Stephen Odey and his FC Zuerich teammates where blown apart 4-0 by inspired Young Boys.
Down by three first half goals Coach Ludovic Magnin subbed off Adrian Winters for the Nigerian striker in the 46th minute but Young Boys were just too strong.

England – Community Shield:

Victor Moses came on as a 79th minute substitute in place of Pedro Rodriguez but could do little to prevent reigning EPL Champions Manchester City from winning the first silverware at stake after Aguero’s brace sealed a straight forward 2-0 win for the citizens over Chelsea in the community shield season’s curtain raiser.

England – Championship:

Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo’s competitive debut for his new club Stoke City ended in a disappointing fashion after the relegated side from the EPL lost 1-3 to Leeds United in their second division season’s opener.
Etebo who started the game was hauled off in the 63rd minute for Darren Fletcher.

Austria – Bundesliga:

LASK FC Nigerian striker Yusuf Otubanjo fired blanks in his side’s goalless encounter at home to SKN Poelten.
Samuel Tetteh replaced the Nigerian in the 79th minute.

Norway – Eliteserien:

Former Akwa United midfielder Ifeanyi Mathew saw full action for Lillestroem who battled to force a home draw against FCMolde. Mathew was pivotal in midfield and was not hampered by a 29th minute yellow card for a rough challenge. FC Molde did not call on the services of their Nigerian player Daniel Chima who sat the game out on the bench.

Defender Mohammed Usman came on to replace Joergen Halvorsen for the final 10 minutes of his side’s Sarpsborg 08 FC 3-1 away win at Stabaek FC.

Belgium – First Division A:

Nigerian versatile young forward Dennis Bonaventure came on to replace Arnaut Groeneveld in the final 12 minutes of Club Brugge 1-0 win away to Royal Mouscron despite his going down to an early red card shown to Wesley in the 11 minute.
