Kada City FC have emerged the 2017/2019 Bet9ja Nigeria National League [NNL] champions, beating Bendel Insurance 4-3 on penalties after finishing the match 1-1 in regular time.
Kada City started on the front foot with forward forays and came close to scoring early in the second half but Sadiq Suleiman who was clear on goal clattered into the Bendel Insurance goalkeeper inside the penalty box just after taking the path of the ball wide of the goal and the referee overlooked the incident.
Bendel Insurance replied the move with a goal of their own when Ekene Obi misplaced a header that set Emmanuel Uagboje free and he weighed the ball over the onrushing Kada City goalkeeper and into the empty net to put the Benin Arsenals ahead.
Kada City equalized through Kabiru Sanusi from 8 yards in a crowded Insurance 18 yard box as he converted a headed pass from Sadiq Suleiman with the Insurance goalkeeper well beaten to ensure that both teams go into the break all square.
Both teams searched for the winner after the break going close on a few occasions but failed to find the decider and the game went straight to penalties to decide the outright winners of the Bet9ja NNL Super 8 tournament and the season champions.
Bendel Insurance captain, Charles Omokaro missed the last spot kick for the Benin based side and Kada City FC won the penalties 4-3 to become the champions.
Both Kada City FC and Bendel Insurance had already qualified for the Nigeria Professional Football League [NPFL] after finishing top of their conferences. The League Management Company [LMC] had given the newly promoted teams a grace of one matchday before they join up to the timetable.
