Relegated Shooting Stars of Ibadan have shown twenty (20) of their players the exit door for low productivity and below par performance below in the recently concluded 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Oluyole warriors through their spokesperson, Mr Jubril Arowolo confirmed this development to naijafootballplus.com that the need arose to part ways with some players in order to allow new players to come in as the club prepares for life in the Nigeria’s second tier division.
“The management evaluated the contributions and performance of every player in the team that got relegated from the premier league and the need arose for some set of players to look elsewhere for next season,” Arowolo stated.
“We registered forty (40) players in the just concluded season and twenty were released and or placed on transfer so that the team can bring in new players to prosecute our ambition of quick return to the top flight football.”
“Among the players we retained for next season are Jide Apena, Kunle Olukokun, Bode Daniel, Ajani Ibrahim, Sheriff Sanda, Shittu Taiwo, Isiaq Rafiu, Wasiu Jimoh and Abayomi Adebayo.
“Others include Abubakar Adamu, Kayode Bankole, Michael Uweru, Seun Akinyemi, Alaba Osawe, Waheed Omololu, Oginni Olatunbosun, Opeyemi Adetoyi, Shile Ibrahim and Faleye Sunday. These are the set of retaining players for next season.
Arowolo also added that new set of players will be added to the retained squad after a thorough and vigorous screening which will be conducted to fill all the necessary positions in the team.
“The management has accepted the challenges of playing in the Nigeria National League next season and will do everything humanly possible to return the team to the Premier league. We urge our fans to stay behind the team in this trial period and we promise that they will see improved Shooting stars next season,” he concluded.
