After matchday 25, the Nigeria Professional Football League has reached a crescendo. Surprisingly Plateau United sits comfortably on top of the log, MFM FC and El-Kanemi Warriors mounts a challenge while, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Lobi star, Akwa united and Enyimba all chasing continental tickets.

But who overachieved, who did as expected, and who underachieved? naijafootballplus.com
grades every team from A+ to C-

For Plateau United to be leading the table now is simply phenomenal, the team coach Kennedy Boboye seems to have moulded the team into a strong unit. They have recorded amazing results even away from home this season. They are the highest scoring side and conceded fewer goals. It will take extraordinary efforts to stop them from winning the league.

Verdict: A+

MFM FC, have produced excellent performances this season especially in the first stanza but second stanza syndromes that affected the team last season looks to have caught up with them again. If they are playing at home, they are solid but always a suspect whenever on the road.

Verdict: A

El-Kanemi held a 100% home record until they hosted Rangers who shared points with them. They look balanced with Matthias Samuel and old war horse Isiaka Olawale in their team. They are having a good season and have got a decent team but have some hard games towards the end of the season which might alter their position.

Verdict: B

Akwa United started slowly but looked to have get their bearing at the right time. Super Eagles invitee Alhassan Ibrahim has carried the team on his shoulder with Christian Pyagbara playing pivotal roles for the team. But they are probably where they should be. If they continue this way, they should make the top four.

Verdict: B

Lobi stars are currently having a good run thanks to in form Anthony Okpotu who has been wonderful so far this season notching two hat-tricks this season. The team has improved tremendously since the exits of their former manager Godwin Uwua. If they will finish here, it remains an unanswered question.

Verdict: B

Ifeanyi ubah is a team that is less than 3-years-old, but has so much potential in their team. They hold the longest unbeaten league run this season – 9. Playing 9 games unbeaten shows there is something spectacular about the team. They are a work in progress. They should finish in top four this season. Watch out for them next season.

Verdict: A

Former champions, Enyimba deserves commendations for their efforts. Playing home away from home is no mean feat in Nigerian football and they’ve proved to everyone that they are a good side. Despite losing some important players this season, they have also added fantastic additions in former black stars of Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda and former Nasarawa midfielder Ichull Lordson. It will be interesting to see how they will finish the season.

Verdict: A

After finishing as runner up in the Federation Cup last season everyone expected Nasarawa United to mount a challenge for a top-three finish. Though not too late, finishing in the top half will not be disappointing for the team.

Verdict: B

Kano Pillars have not lived up to expectation this season despite the financial stability of the team. I expect them to be a lot better than are come the end of the season

Verdict: B

Staying in Tenth position might not be bad for Niger Tornadoes at present, if they will finish there is another question to be answered. They are decent at home but always look jaded on away games.

Verdict: B

Consistency has been the greatest undoing of Abia warrior. They started poorly and didn’t really turn up – it wasn’t good enough. They sacked their gaffer in Okey Emordi and then started turning it on later in the season but if only they could be consistent in churning out positive results.

Verdict: C

ABS FC, they are a good youthful side with a lot of potential in the team but need to sort out their away record if they must retain their NPFL status.

Verdict: C

Katsina United are currently feeling the heat and what it takes to play in the NPFL. They need to do better if they must stay in the league.

Verdict: C

Current champions Rangers are having a season to forget, I think they pressed the panic button the moment they eased out the coach that won them the league which adversely affected their performance on the pitch. They were poor earlier in the league but have improved lately picking valuable points in Maiduguri and Minna.

Verdict: C

Its not easy after having had a decent season, qualified for the continent and lost important players in the team including their manager. Even after sacking coach Mohammed Babaganaru the team still hasn’t improved much.

Verdict: C

Rivers United’s season has been an absolute anti-climax. There have been games they dominated and just
couldn’t score. They have to choose between staying in the NPFL and forgoing their continental ambitions.

Verdict: C

Sunshine Stars have a decent set of players but internal wranglings have been their greatest undoing coupled with erring fans. Now that they have been banished maybe they will cope without their fans.

Verdict: C-

For shooting Stars not to go down all hands must be on deck. They have a technical crew that do not know its best team after matchday 25. They didn’t bring in enough good players. It will be a miracle if they stay up.

Verdict : C-

Gombe United are candidates for relegation except they start winning points home and away.

Verdict: C-

Remo stars are new to NPFL football and that is seriously telling on the team. They look odds-on favourites to be relegated.

Verdict: C-
