NPFL Matchday 9: Top 5 matches to look forward to

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) continues this weekend with matchday 9 fixtures to be played across various centers all around the country on Sunday. Here are the top 5 of this weekends fixtures.

5. Heartland FC vs Wikki Tourists FC
NPFL returnees, Heartland FC will look to bounce back to newly found winning ways when they host Wikki Tourists, who are three places and two points better than their hosts, in Owerri. Tourists are bad travelers but Heartland have struggled at home losing to Rangers and drawing twice to Yobe Desert Stars and Sunshine Stars. Heartland will hope to consolidate on their first home victory a fortnight ago against Kwara United but Wikki may believe that they can salvage at least a point from Owerri.
Prediction: Heartland 2-1 Wikki

4: Abia Warriors vs Yobe Desert Stars
Abia Warriors coach, Emmanuel Deutsch, who won’t stop complaining of his lack of players, will hope to turn around the fortunes of the Ochendo Boys. Abia Warriors have struggled to pick maximum points both at home and away from home. Yobe Desert Stars on the other hand will hope to pick another oriental point after they got a draw in Owerri in their last away fixture. Chinedu Ohanachom will be a thorn for the Abia Warriors defence.
Prediction: Abia Warriors 1-1 Yobe Desert Stars

3: El-Kanemi Warriors vs Go Round FC
Coach Imama Amapakabo will look to record his first win since returning to the Maiduguri based club. Coming from a 1-0 defeat in his old stomping ground in Enugu, the former NPFL title winning coach will hope to fix his team’s fluttering performances which has seen them drop 4 points in Maiduguri already. Go Round, after a convincing victory over Abia Warriors, will look to pull the rabbit out of the hat and escape with a valuable point. It is very unlikely that they will leave unscathed.
Prediction: Elkanemi 2-0 Go Round

2: Nasarawa United vs Kwara United
The North Central derby this weekend will see strugglers tackle each other for a chance to salvage their unconvincing season. Kwara United coach, John Obuh has found life difficult in the NPFL. The newly promoted side will hope to get their team back on their feet. They may not aim at winning or leaving with a draw but it is a chance to find their feet and get the team in shape else things might turn from bad to worse for the Ilorin based team.
Prediction: Nasarawa United 2-0 Kwara United

1. Kano Pillars vs Enyimba
With 11 titles between them, this is the biggest fixture in the NPFL this weekend. Both teams are 3rd and 5th respectively and have been impressive this season recording just 1 defeat each. Enyimba will hope to halt their hosts’ perfect home run this season. The visitors last won this fixture on the road to the title 3 seasons ago and have lost the last two. Pillars who are eyeing a continental finish have an in-form Junior Lokosa to bank on for goals. He has 7 goals so far, 3 better than Enyimba’s highest scorer this season, Stanley Dimgba. Expect all the fireworks but the goals in this fixture with Enyimba going into their away games on super defensive mode.
Prediction: Pillars 0-0 Enyimba

A total of 7 games will be played this weekend with all the continental representatives except Enyimba in action.
