League leaders Plateau United and Elkanemi Warriors stumbled on the road while MFM FC ended FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s eight-match unbeaten run.
Andrew Abalogu’s 69th minute strike helped Enyimba International pip league leaders Plateau United 1-0 in Calabar. Enyimba were wasteful in the game and could have scored more than one if only they had taken their chances. Plateau United still retain the top spot with 39 points from 22 matches despite the defeat.
Wikki Tourists defeated Elkanemi Warriors 2-1 in Bauchi. Goals from Ismail Gbabaya and Festus Umanneh secured the maximum points for the hosts, Efe Yarhere got his side’s consolation in the 87th minute.
In the battle of fourth against third, MFM FC ended FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s eight-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory. Adebayo Waheed’s first half goal was enough for the Olukoya Boys to secure their first win in the second stanza. The victory moved MFM FC to second position with 37 points from 22 matches, two points behind leaders Plateau United.
Shooting Stars emerged victorious in the Southwest derby encounter against Sunshine Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium, the Oluyole Warriors piped their rival 1-0. Ibrahim Ajani scored the only goal in the 7th minute of the game.
In Shagamu, Remo Stars bounced back to winning ways after a dreadful run of a five-match losing streak. The Sky Blue Stars spanked Gombe United 2-0 at the Gateway International stadium in the battle of the newly promoted sides. Salefu Oche opened scores from a superb free kick in the 10th minute. Ekene Awazie confirmed the victory for his team six minutes later, Awazie finished off Oche’s corner kick.
ABS FC left it late against Niger Tornadoes in Ilorin, the Saraki Boys won 2-1. Mohammed Mohammed put the host ahead in the opening 20 minutes. Abdullahi Wakili leveled scores from the spot late in the first half for the visitors before Martin Ossy came to the rescue of the Saraki Boys and scored the winner in the 84th minute.
Kastina United edged Abia Warriors 1-0. Sani Nasiru’s first half penalty secured the win for the Northern based club.
In Kano, Nyima Nwangwa scored twice as Kano Pillars defeated Lobi Stars 2-1. The former Lobi Stars forward punished his former team with a brace. Uchenna Eze’s goal in the 85th minute was only a consolation for the visitors.
Nasarawa United were the only traveling team that earned a point on the road after a 1-1 stalemate at Rangers. Thomas Zenke stunned the champions in the 75th minute, the lead lasted for just five minutes as Godwin Aguda drew Rangers level in the 80th minute for both teams to share the spoils.
Midweek fixtures will take centre stage on Wednesday with 9 Matchday 23 fixtures scheduled by the LMC.
