Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Plateau United suffered a 1-2 defeat at Abia Warriors, as the NPFL matchday 25 produced eight home wins and two draws. The weekend also witnessed 18 goals scored from 10 matches.
Matchday 25 was not pleasing for FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi as they stuttered against relegation threatened Wikki Tourists. The Anambra Warriors manager Yaw Preko missed the game due to family commitments in Ghana.
The matchday actions started on Friday evening in Makurdi where Lobi Stars pipped Rivers United 1-0, substitute Nanen Imenger scored a late winner for the hosts with five minutes left to play.
In Umuahia, a Shedrack Asiegbu stunning strike put Abia Warriors ahead in the 11th minute against Plateau United. The league leaders levelled scores in the 80th minutes through substitute Hamzat Owolabi’s deflected effort. Plateau United thought they had earned another point on the road but Sherack Asiegbu broke the visitors’ hearts with a late winner from the penalty spot. Despite the defeat Plateau United still maintain the lead at the top with 45 points, five points ahead of second place El-Kanemi Warriors.
El-Kanemi moved into second position after their 2-0 win against Remo Stars at the Maiduguri Township Stadium. Sunday Anthony scored twice in each half of the game.
Two goals from Amos Gyang and a late strike by Adamu Mohammed helped Kano Pillars to a 3-1 win against MFM FC. Rabiu Ali opened scores in the encounter from the spot in the 12th minute before Stephen Odey levelled for the Lagos side in the 58th minute, his 15th league goal of the season. However, Gyang came on from the bench and restored the hosts into the lead in the 83rd minute, while Mohammed added the third in stoppage time.
Shooting Stars earned their first win against ABS FC since 2012. The Oluyole Warriors defeated the Saraki Boys 2-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan. It was a difficult game for the hosts before Adebayo Ibrahim broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Sunday Faleye came on from the bench and sealed the victory in the 85th minute for his sixth goal of the season.
Two early first half goals from Ibrahim Alhassan and Musa Newman secured a 2-0 win for Akwa United against Katsina United. Alhassan who made a return from National team duties scored his 11th goal of the season.
Sunshine Stars ended a three-match losing streak against Gombe United with 2-1 victory at their adopted home ground in Ijebu-ode. Sunday Alimi put the hosts ahead in the 33rd minute, Dayo Ojo increased the lead in the second half. Austin Oladapo 57th minute goal could only stand as consolation for the visitors.
A solitary strike by Bashir Abdulrahman three minutes into the second half helped Nasarawa United to a 1-0 win against his former team Enyimba International in Lafia.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah played a goalless draw against Wikki Tourists in Nnewi. Wikki goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu was the hero of the day for the visitors with superb saves time and again. Rangers International also held Niger Tornadoes to a goalless draw at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
