Ahead of their league opener against Abia Angels on Wednesday, head coach of Sunshine Queens FC of Akure, Wemimo Matthew has charged her girls to give 100% commitment as they go into the long awaited campaign.
Sunshine Queens at the weekend ended a pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Sure Babes of Ilorin in a friendly tie.
Two goals in 12 minutes from Precious Vincent gave Sunshine Queens the well deserved victory having thrashed a selected U15 side 4-1 days earlier.
Wemimo faced the media after the Sure Babes game and was full of satisfaction about her team’s preparation for the new season.
” I’m pleased with the overall progress of the players so far, we’ve identified some lapses and we’ll surely make amends immediately,”she said.
The Super Falcons Assistant coach also reiterated the team’s determination to win the double at the end of the league season.
“Our target is to grab a double this year and we believe it is achievable, motivation is key and I believe we have a management who is eager to motivate us to achieve these set targets,” an optimistic Wemimo hinted.
On her team’s chances and expectations against Abia Angels, Wemimo Mathew confidently acknowledged the fact that the visitors are not pushovers but will surely be defeated in Akure.
“We must respect the Angels from Abia because they play in the Elite league but we are not afraid of them, we will surely pick maximum points convincingly,” Wemimo added.
Sunshine Queens will on Tuesday 10 April unveil new players recruited for the new season.
