NWPL: Sunshine Queens, Pelican Stars share spoils in Calabar


Sunshine Queens FC maintained their good start to the 2017/2018 Nigeria Women Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Pelican stars of Calabar at the UJ Esuene stadium on Thursday.

The home team went in front in the 18th minute, thanks to a Rofiat Umran’s own goal before Tina Onyathelemhi scored the equaliser for the away side in the 44th minute.

It was Sunshine Queens first away game of the season, following impressive home victories against Abia Angels and Jokodolu Babes.  

Sunshine Queens head coach Wemimo Mathew made tactical changes in the second half introducing bolaji Olamide who replaced Lola Philips in the 73rd minute before Aina Oyebola replaced Patricia Innocent in the 80th minute.

Pelican Stars who came into the game on the back of two poor results pushed hard for a win but Coach Wemimo Matthew’s tactical changes in the second half proved enough to keep them at bay.

Coach Wemimo Mathew commended her players after the game, urging them to redouble efforts in their next match against Nasarawa Amazons

Sunshine Queens now occupy the number one spot on the abridged league table with 7 points same with Nasarawa amazons but with superior goal difference.
