Zambia’s head coach Wedson Nyirenda, has admitted the Chipolopolo’s were wasteful after a 1-0 loss to Nigeria in Uyo on Saturday night.
An Alex Iwobi second half goal was enough for the Super Eagles to edge out the Chipolopolo and secure the 2018 World Cup ticket holding in Russia.
“We had many clear chances but we didn’t utilize them and we were punished by conceding a goal. Before this game we had many injuries and despite that, we gave a good account of ourselves. We played a great game and like I said this is the best game of the series,” said Nyirenda.
Nyirenda also admitted Nigeria were the better side; “The best team won the game and because of the difference of one goal.
For most of the game we were on top of Nigeria, but they used their experience by getting the all needed goal from a half chance. They won and deserved it, obviously the overall better side.
“I would like to thank the people of Nigeria for their hospitality, on behalf of the Zambia National team and the people of Zambia we congratulate the Super Eagles for qualifying for the 2018 Russia World Cup.
It was not an easy feat to get to the World Cup, they really fought for it, and from the first game they’ve been working hard.”
