After recording an applaudable feat in Rwanda last Saturday, Rivers United delegation to Kigali for the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup playoff round against Rayon Sports arrived Nigeria via Lagos on Sunday.
The ‘Pride of Rivers’ progressed to the Group stages of the CAF second tier club competition after a goalless draw in the second leg fixture at the Amahoro Stadium on Saturday to win 2-0 on aggregate.
An elated Rivers United midfielder, Nzube Anaezemba said to Naijafootballplus.com at the Murtala International Airport, Lagos that the Rivers State based club have set their target to win the coveted CAF title.
“The first leg result put us into the advantage but we find it difficult in Kigali. In the second half, we played with a man down but we were able to remain compact. We are happy we progressed, as the only surviving team we are proud of our achievement,” said Nzube.
The former Enyimba International player is delighted with playing on the continent with Rivers United and revealed the Sudan experience played a partin the team’s success in Rwanda.
“I have been on the continent before now but the experience with Rivers United is wonderful. We fought hard in the Champions League but we were unlucky, the experience helped us against Rayon.
“After the game in Kigali, the players and technical crew discussed and we have resolved to win the Confederations Cup title. We have put our heads together and our target is to win the tournament,” Nzube added.
