Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi put aside put aside his struggles for Nigeria during the international break to score his fifth goal of the season and help Torino sweep aside Cagliari 4-0 in the Serie A on Saturday.
Joel Obi came on as a 77th minute substitute, replacing Iago Falque who had bagged a goal and an assist to help put Torino 3 goals up before his exit for the Nigerian.
Obi needed only ten minutes to add gloss to an already impressive score line, as he finished off an assist from highly rated Italian young forward Andre Belotti in the 87th minute to make it 4-0 at full time.
Interestingly, all of Torino’s goals came in the second half, with Iago Falque’s 61st minute effort opening the floodgates.
Adem Ljajic wasted no time to make it 2-nil as goal scorer Falque turned provider in the 65th minute.
Daniel Ansaldi scored the third in the 79th minute before Joel Obi stretched the margin with the fourth goal.
Joel Obi failed to convince Nigerians on his return to the Super Eagles despite starting in both friendlies against Poland and Serbia during the just past international break.
His continued fine form at club level however, will definitely raise questions on his tactical deployment for the Super Eagles under German tactician Gernot Rohr.
Joel Obi is actually enjoying his best club football season, after an injury blighted career that ended his Inter Milan dreams.
Torino are now right at the middle of the Serie A table with 39 points from 29 games with a mid week match at home to Crotone on Wednesday afternoon providing a chance for them to consolidate their position.
