Rangers International FC coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has pointed to carelessness in front of goal as the major reason for his side’s barren draw against visiting Kwara United on Sunday.
The flying antelopes handler apologized for the points dropped and rued his side’s profligacy in front of goal as their biggest undoing.
Speaking post match after the game in Enugu, Ogunbote stated that the Enugu based side could have scored as much as four if they had made their first half momentum count.
“We’re very sorry for the two points lost. We lost the game in the first half when we could’ve wrapped up the game, but unfortunately we paid for our carelessness.
“We were just careless as we could’ve scored three or four,” he lamented.
The Rangers Coach feels Kwara were lucky to escape with a point as they(Rangers) had the game under control though a late search for the winner changed the tide of the game.
“It is two points lost, we weren’t lucky to win a point because the first half was totally ours and they managed only a real chance in the second half but we had chances on both halves.
“The search for goal made the team play out of plan towards the end of the game and it gave them the leverage to attack us.”
He pleaded with the Enugu fans to exercise patience with the team as they are working towards their target.
“This is a temporary setback and not a disaster. We will make amends. I know we will get to where we are going. We ask for understanding and patience from our fans,” he concluded.
The goalless draw on Sunday means Rangers have now gotten 23 points from 16 games this season and are focused on finishing with a continental ticket.
Gbenga Ogunbote had Enyimba FC qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup with a third place finish last season.
