Points picked up on the road in the course of the second round of the Nigeria Professional Football League would be crucial in determining Enyimba’s season says Coach Gbenga Ogunbote.
Enyimba ran away 1-0 winners against Remo Stars in a match day 20 league game played in Sagamu on Sunday and Ogunbote was more than delighted at what he described as a great start to the second stanza of the season.
Enyimba had a torrid start to the first half of season most especially highlighted by the month of March where they picked up just nine from a possible twenty one points dropping points at home against 3SC and MFM FC.
Ogunbote describes Enyimba’s win on Sunday as a great start to the second round and hopes it can be built upon to ensure a successful season.
“It was a good one (Remo win) for us. We’ve started the second round well.
“We did everything possible in the first stanza to get a win away, we were unable to get it but now that we have gotten this, this would be a motivating factor for the players and the team in entirety.
“So as at the moment we want to work harder to ensure we manage the success” said the amiable Coach”.
The People’s Elephant finished outside the continental slots last season and Ogunbote says if that is to be remedied, taking points on the road will have to become a habit.
“If we have a dream of finishing the league in an appreciable position we do not have a choice but to win and get points on the road and make sure we do well at home.
A 38th minute Ugochukwu Leonard’s goal was enough for Enyimba to record their first away league win of the season on Sunday, a result which moved the People’s Elephant to 5th on the league table from their previous 7th position.
