Former captain and coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Sunday Oliseh showed his tactical acumen with another important three points secured for Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard on Friday after a 1-0 win over FC Volendam in the Netherlands – Eerste Divisie.
Oliseh deployed a 4-3-3 formation which was matched by the visiting technical bench of FC Volendam, but non of the teams could break the deadlock in the first half.
The match looked set for a draw before defender Marco Ospitalieri broke the deadlock on 71 minute to send home fans at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion into celebration.
Despite several attempts by coach Sunday Oliseh’s Sittard side to score an insurance goal with the Nigerian deploying some changes from the bench, the host were subjected to a nervy finish but held on to edge the match 1-0.
The win moves Fortuna Sittard into 3rd position on the log with 10 points after 5 matches, a point behind MVV in second position and two points behind table toppers Ajax II.
So far Oliseh has overseen 3 wins, one defeat and a draw which was their previous result against Emmem FC last week in an away fixture.
Up next for Fortuna Sittard is a KNVB Cup match on Tuesday against Noordwijk before resuming league duties against AZ II next week Friday.
