Fortuna Sittard managed by former Super Eagles captain and one time coach Sunday Oliseh started the new year the way they ended the previous one with a hard fought 2-1 win over third placed Ajax II in the Dutch Erste Divisie (Netherlands second division) game played on Friday night.
It would be recalled that coach Sunday Oliseh oversaw a very successful first stanza of the season with Fortuna Sittard at the top of the table while also winning their last game 3-1 against Utrecht II last month.
Two first half goals from Djibril Dianessy in the 11th and 20th minutes set the promotion chasing Sittard on their way to victory, as they recovered well from their 1-2 loss on Tuesday to Susteren FC in a club friendly.
A strange first half stat was the 84 percent ball possession enjoyed by the dominant visiting Ajax II side to a 16 percent registered by coach Sunday Oliseh’s young lads who registered the goals that counts as the most relevant stat.
The second half continued as the first with Ajax II pressing Sittard and were rewarded with a goal from Darren Sidoel in the 73rd. minute to spark live into the contest.
But Sunday Oliseh’s Sittard held on to win 2-1 after a nervy 6 minutes added time which was just two short of the 8 minutes added in the first half.
Fortuna Sittard top of the 24 teams table having accumulated 44 points from 20 matches, a point above second placed NEC FC who have a game in hand and a further 5 points clear of third placed Ajax II.
