Akwa United goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke is a happy man after his side’s victory in this year’s Aiteo Cup final.
The Promise Keepers defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-2 on penalties after a goalless encounter at the Soccer Temple, Agege in Lagos to emerge Cup champions on Sunday night.
Olorunleke, who came to the stadium with his wife and four month old baby is excited to win his first major title at club level.
The Former Flying goalkeeper was part of the Nigeria U20 team that won the 2015 African U-20 Nations Cup in Senegal.
“It was an emotional moment for me, my wife and my baby boy was at the stadium and I was hoping I won’t disappoint them. I am an happy man, excited to win my first major title at club football level. It was a big day for me and my family,” said Olorunleke to Naijafootballplus.com.
Olorunleke was voted the ‘Best Player Of The Tournament’ and ‘Man Of The Match.’ He received both awards on the podium with his baby boy.
“I have got a big story to tell my boy when he is mature, I took him to the podium to receive the awards because he has brought blessing to the family.
“It was a difficult game for us, we came into the game as favourites but Niger Tornadoes turned up in the game more than us. We were the luckiest side, we almost missed this glorious moment but I am happy we survived the hurdle and emerged champions,” he added.
