Akwa United goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke has promised to keep a clean sheet against league-leaders Plateau United this weekend in Jos.
The Promise Keepers are guests of the Jos based club in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 28 clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.
Plateau United are the NPFL leaders with 48 points from 27 league matches, while Akwa United occupy third position with 43 points with the same number of matches, just five points separates both sides on the log.
Plateau United have got amazing home form this season, they have won 12 of their 13 home matches and drew one game against Lobi Stars in March. Akwa United have garnered seven points on the road this season with one win and four draws scoring six times.
The former Flying Eagles and Sunshine Stars goalkeeper believes the visitors can stun the league-leaders in Jos and close the points gap.
“We are on our way to Jos with a great squad, we have got a big game this weekend and the team is ready to battle for the points. We have this belief and the team spirit is high. My target is to keep a clean sheet and hopefully we can earn a big result,” said Olorunleke to Naijafootballplus.com as the team embarked on their journey to Jos from Uyo.
Olorunleke is familiar with Jos, he played at Giwa FC for three years. He was part of the historic squad that got Giwa FC promoted to the top-flight league and also emerged as NNL champions in 2012.
He added: “I have been communicating with my teammates about Jos, the weather and the expected atmosphere inside the stadium. We have prepared our hearts to ensure we leave Jos with a positive result.
“The points gap is five and a win for us in Jos means we will be able to reduce the gap to just two points. After our victory against Enyimba last weekend we fancy our chances at winning the league and finishing among the top three teams.
“If we have to achieve our aims for the season, this is a bright opportunity to fight and catch up with the teams ahead of us. We have to slow down the teams ahead of us and this game provide us the opportunity.
“We are optimistic, it will be a difficult game to crack. This should be our biggest game this season and we are taking the positives from the leg which we won in Uyo. I’m confident we will pull a great result.”
Akwa United won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Nest of Champions, Uyo in February. Christian Pyagbara and Ibrahim Alhassan scored for Akwa United while Ndukwu China scored Plateau United’s consolation.
