Ordega swaps USA for Spain


Super Falcons Striker Francisca Ordega has joined Atletico de Madrid Femenino (Atletico Madrid FC Women) on a season-long loan from National Women Soccer League (NWSL) side Washington Spirit.

This news, which was announced on Atletico Madrid Femenino’s verified Twitter handle and their official Website, further explained that the Nigerian was signed to add a degree of firmness to the attacking line of the Spanish side.

“After successfully completing the relevant medical examination, Francisca Ordega signed the contract that binds her to our club and was happy to wear rojiblanco.

“The 24-year-old Nigerian footballer is on the front line and will wear our jersey until next March when she will start a new edition of the American competition,” a statement on their official Website read.

Ordega in reaction to the news said: “For me it’s an honour and I’m very happy to be here. Atletico Madrid is a great club, internationally recognized, and I really want to start.

“I am a strong player and very fast. I’ll adapt to the new environment”.

Ordega a Former Bayelsa United and Rivers Angels forward on thursday celebrated her birthday.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have started rolling in for the mercurial forward, and the first to send her a congratulatory message is fellow Falcons forward Desire Oparanozie, who wrote on her page, “It’s official. Congratulations my girl. Welcome to Spain”.
