Head coach of Osun Babes FC Liadi Bashiru has expressed delight at the mid-season recruitment the club has made ahead of the second round of the Nigeria Women Premier League which begins on June 21.
As announced by the club’s media, the Omoluabi Queens have completed the signing of former Abia Angels forward, Mary Anjor and midfielder Ayo Ojo from a Lagos based team, to fortify their squad.
Anjor is expected to form a promising attacking partnership with the likes of Edewor Precious, Ikoyo Rejoice and Kesiena Ojiyovwi to help the Osogbo based side improve on goal scoring considering they have only managed seven goals in seven matches yet.
And knowing the huge task that awaits them in the second round, coach Bashiru is positive that the club’s new additions will prove their mettle.
“I am very positive that the new additions will add value and compliment the efforts of the players we have in place,” Bashiru told Osun Babes’ media.
He added that it is not their intention to sign too many players this mid-season because “we have a great team already”.
“We just want to keep our squad stable, while we strengthen where possible,” he explained.
“We also want to do very well in the second round as we need to continue with the same momentum (with which) we ended the first round of the league.”
With 10 points and a lesser goal difference, Osun Babes wrapped up the first round of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League on fifth position in Group B. They welcome Sa’adatu Amazons FC of Minna to the Osogbo City Stadium on June 21 when the league resumes.
