Delta Force Football Club of Asaba tasted its first defeat in the 2016/17 Nigeria National League season today at the Osogbo city stadium in a week 4 clash with Osun United after being pipped by a lone goal from the host.
Victor Okeji’s 17th minutes acrobatic strike was enough for the Omoluabi giants to cruise past their visitors and the first goal to be conceded by the Delta Ambassadors this season.
The Imo State born striker had swept in an acrobatic kick after connecting with a cross to beat Isah Ismail in goal for Delta Force.
The Asaba outfit were stung into action by the goal and almost drew level in the 30th minute after Ufioma Ajanikolo latched onto a loose ball in the vital area of the Omoluabi Giants before driving in a fiery shot that beat Osun United goalkeeper Ayo Ojo but was cleared off the line by a defender, Mojeed Yusuf.
Speaking after the match, the head coach of Delta Force FC, Peter Niekiten commended his players for a strong showing saying that they must take the positives from the game and focus on their next match against Papilo FC of Owerri at the Austin JJ Okocha Stadium Ogwashi-uku on Wednesday 5 April.
According to him the game is a must win for the Delta Ambassadors and the team must work hard to achieve the needed result.
For his part, coach of Osun United Duke Udi described the game as tough as their opponents came into the match with the intention of getting a positive result having won three straight matches. He described his players performance as superb stressing that he hopes to build on the victory ahead of its away match against First Bank of Lagos on Wednesday.
The match winner, Victor Okeji also described the victory as a big motivation for their next game away to First Bank in Lagos that the omoluabi giants will sweat their blood to get the much needed victory in Lagos on Wednesday.
