Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC gaffer Henry Makinwa has given a nod to the imminent ascension of Plateau United as champions of 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
He said this after his team had pegged the wings of the table toppers – who were on a 5-game unbeaten run – 2-0 at the Ilorin township stadium.
“I must say Plateau United are a good side, tactically sound team. I saw a lot of good things in them today and I must agree that they are good for the title,” Makinwa said to Npfl.ng
The two goals came from an early Samuel Oyedeji’s spot-kick and in-form Wasiu Alalade’s hammered shot later in the second half.
Henry then directed the praises of this well fought victory onto his players and their insatiable urge to revenge the 4-1 shellacking they suffered in the reverse fixture in Jos.
“The boys were ready for a revenge and they told me that they would win this match with added push. So the boys won the game. I was going to talk but they say I shouldn’t worry that they would win and it all played out.
“It wasn’t really easy playing three games in eight days. ABS play faster than you saw them today but because they wanted to revenge for what they saw in Jos. They had to raise their game,” he said.
Makinwa further said that his team won’t stop fighting the drop until the final match day of the season.
“We continue to push until the last day, this is gone now. We forge ahead and hope other results favour us.”
His struggling team, ABS FC, currently sit 18th on the log, but just 3 points separates them from 10th placed Rangers International with 3 matchdays to go.
