Player Profile: Cedric Bakambu

Our player to be profiled this week is Villarreal’s hatrick hero Cedric Bakambu, whose treble secured a win over Eibar at the weekend.

Born on April 11th, 1991, in Vitry-sur-Seine, France, Cedric Bakambu spent six years at youth club Ivy, where he began his career.

In 2006 he joined the Sochaux youth team, and after four years, he got promoted to the senior side, where he had 94 league appearances and scored 18 times between 2010 and 2014.

A move to Turkish club Bursaspor in the summer of 2014 was next on the cards, and after a sole season of 27 games and a decent tally 13 goals, Spanish club Villarreal snapped him up.

He has been with the Yellow Submarine since 2015, and he played a pivotal role in their run to the semi-final of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League.

Bakambu represented France at U-18, U-19 and U-20 level- he was part of the French side that got to the last eight of the U-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011- but he opted to play for Democratic Republic of Congo senior side, for whom he made his debut in 2015, and has six goals in 14 appearances.
