A mid-season award ceremony was on Thursday held at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, Kogi State, by Confluence Queens Football Club in a bid to recognise their outstanding performers from the first half of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League season.
Chairman of the team, Mallam Abdul Sule and Supporters Club Chief, Hon Moses Nagogo Bako presented the four awards which cut across every position in the squad.
Polinus Ifeoma’s instant impact at the club earned her the best striker award. It is only her first season in Lokoja following her move from defunct COD United Ladies, but over seven matches the dead ball specialist has cemented her place in the squad scoring three goals which makes her the club’s highest goal scorer yet.
Known for her ball winning style, Bola Oladiti was recognised as the Best Midfielder while Ogechi Joseph was named the Best Defender.
The Golden Gloves award for the best goalkeeper was received by Mercy Vincent who has kept four clean sheets in six games played.
The second stanza of the season is scheduled to commence on June 21 and Confluence Queens will be guests of Adamawa Queens.
The New Direction Queens currently occupy second in Group B with 14 points from seven matches.
