The jaw-droppingly fantastic left-footed volley belted by MFM FC’s Sikiru
Olatunbosun in the NPFL Matchday 8 clash against Rangers International at the Agege Stadium has been ignored by Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) in the nomination list for 2017 Puskas Award.
The strike, which broke the internet when it surged into the net, won the CNN goal of the week ahead Roma’s Raja Nainggolan and
Youri Tielemans (then of Anderlecht) by a large margin but has been denied a Puskas Award nomination as FIFA released the list of goals nominated for the prestigious award.
The goal which move was started by Chuka Onuwa after wrong-footing and wriggling free from two Rangers players, before nudging it towards Steven Odey, who flicked it skillfully to Sikiru. With his back turned on goal, Sikiru instinctively teed it over on-rushing Etim Matthew, pivoted quickly
and latched the ball passed the awestruck Itodo Akor as it dinked into the right corner of goalpost.
The goals selected ahead of the 20 year-old’s salvo includes Kelvin Prince Boateng’s scissors kick in the colours of Las Palmas against Villareal and a very inspirational stoppage time over-head kick equaliser by Baroka’s Goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke against Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier League.
Also included are: the brassy scorpion-kick scored by Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud against Crystal Palace, the elegant over-head drive scored by Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic in the UEFA champions league final against Real
Madrid and Nemanja Matic’s fiercely struck piledriver in the all blue of Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur in the English FA cup.
Other wonder goals on the list are from: Alejandro Camargo for Universidad
de Concepcion, Deyna Castellanos for Venezuela U17 Women football team,
Moussa Dembele for Celtic, Aviles Hurtado for Tiguana, Jordi Mboula for Barcelona Youth team.
