Rangers ask ‘title-winning’ coach to step aside


Following strings of poor performances, Nigeria Professional Football league defending champions​, Rangers International has placed their manager Imama Amapakabo on indefinite suspension and immediately replaced him with assistant manager Chukwuma Agbo.

The club’s general manager Christian Chukwu who confirmed the statement did not explain the reason behind his suspension.

Last week the club management placed Imama in a win or burst situation going into the game against Zesco United in the Caf Confederation Cup.

On Sunday the team surrendered a two-goal lead to finish the game 2-2 with visiting Zambian team.

“Yes he (Imama) is on suspension and put aside. It is indefinitely, assistant coach Chukwuma Agbo will take over for the time being,” said chairman of the club Christian Chukwu .

The Nigerian champions have endured a poor start to the 2016-2017 season by winning just four matches out of 19 in all competitions.

Rangers currently are bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with 13 points from 14 matches. Though the club still​ have three outstanding league matches.
