Ahead of the biggest oriental derby this weekend between Rangers and Enyimba, stand-in captain of Enyimba, Ifeanyi Anaemena, has underlined the magnitude of both sides meeting but reiterates that the Peoples’ Elephants are focused on getting a result in Enugu.
The bulky defender was speaking to Magic FM ahead of the game on Sunday and talked about their early season form and expectations.
“It has been a great season for us so far though we didn’t start well, our run of seven matches without defeat has been a result of hard work.
“Rangers is a great challenge for us and we want to keep the streak running. We’re optimistic about the match we have a positive mindset and we’re focused on coming out with a result,” he said
Anaemena further commented on the absence of team captain, Mfon Udoh.
He added: “We are actually missing Mfon Udoh. He’s our captain and we’re not complete without him. He is our goal king and his presence in the team is an inspiration. We’re happy that he will return to match fitness very soon.”
The defender who has found form after his return from injury very early in the season, added his thoughts on the continental result, his rosy partnership with Nelson Ogbonnaya in the heart of Enyimba’s defence and his optimism on playing for the national team
“It was a great feeling for us winning our first continental match this season.
“I’ve been playing with Nelson for quite some time, right from our days from OUK United (now Abia Warriors) and we’re here now. It seems like a good pair.
“I am waiting patiently for my time for the Super Eagles. I will keep working hard and hope I am noticed and invited,” he told Magic FM.
Enyimba FC will visit the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday to face Rangers International FC in a crucial NPFL matchday 12 fixture.
