AS Real Bamako head coach Moussa Kaita has said his side were unlucky to lose at MFM FC on Wednesday at the Soccer Temple, Agege in the 2018 CAF Champions League first round of the qualifiers.
The Malian side lost 0-1 to the Olukoya Boys and bowed out of the competition 2-1 on aggregate after the first leg fixture ended 1-1 in Bamako.
Chijioke Akuneto rescued the day for his side off a cross from substitute Lawal Abayomi in 80th minute.
“We respected MFM in the early part of the game, maybe because they are playing at home. We were able to survive the first twenty minutes and from there we picked up our strength,” said Kaita after the game.
“We were unlucky, we had some scoring chances but we were wasteful in the attack. We could have scored first and put the pressure on the host. I also think the break in our league affected our boys, they couldn’t meet up with expectation.”
MFM FC are through to the next round of the 2018 CAF Champions League, they will keep a date with MC Algers next month.
Kaita added: “I think MFM have got a young team with a lot of prospect in the team, they should compete favourably against the big teams from the next round.”
