The clash of former Nigerian U-20 Flying Eagles forwards Taiwo Awoniyi and Abduljaleel Ajagun, ended with Taiwo Awoniyi on top with a goal that propelled Royal Excel Mouscron to a 2-1 win over Kortrijk in Sunday’s late Belgian First Division playoff.

Taiwo Awoniyi followed up his goal heroics from last weekend against Lierse with the first goal for his Mouscron who came from a goal down to secure the win.

The striker on loan from Liverpool FC, scored the equalizer for Royal Mouscron in the 36th minute after Teddy Mezague scored an unfortunate own goal to put Adjagun and Kortrijk’s noses in front with 14 minutes played.

Awoniyi was shown a yellow card soon after scoring the goal, but was able to log full 90 minutes, while Adjagun was replaced in the 63rd minute by Stijn De Smet.

Awoniyi now has 8 goals in 28 appearances for Royal Mouscron in all competitions this season.

The 20 year-old would be desperate to hit double figures to help open up a chance for a national team call up.
