Caretaker coach of Sunshine Stars, Henry Abiodun remains confident about the club’s safety off the relegation zone in time before the world cup break.
Abiodun reaffirmed the team’s commitment to surviving in the post match presser of their 2-1 win over Heartland of Owerri in Akure on Sunday.
Two spectacular first half goals from Sikiru Alimi and Franklin Sasere proved enough for the Owena Waves as they resisted a fightback from the Naze Millionaires.
Even as signs of vulnerability were still evident, Abiodun is hopeful they’ll sail to the coast of relegation waters in few weeks.
“I’m happy for the win, congratulations to my players and the team. Football is a game of momentum, after Heartland’s goal will have to ensure we put many things in check to secure the win. Again, I praised my boys for their efforts.
“Yes, the win could be the turning point for us and I still hope we get out of the relegation fight before the world cup break. For us training resumes tomorrow’s evening, we are going to Katsina to fight for the maximum points” Abiodun unequivocally stated.
The victory was Sunshine Stars first in four consecutive matches and the result moved them out of the drop zone with 24 points from 21 games.
