Revealed: Super Eagles probable line-up against South Africa

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is set to name his trusted starting line-up for the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa today (Saturday) at the Godswill Akpabia International Stadium, Uyo.

The team held two training sessions on Thursday and Friday to strategize and plan for the crucial game with Rohr supervising proceedings.

The Franco-German coach is expected to make three changes to his line-up today compared to the squad that started against Togo in the International friendly match in Paris on the 1st of June.

Chippa United goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi might start ahead of FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa who played against Corsica and Togo. Kenneth Omeruo is expected to pair with William Troost-Ekong in defence ahead of Chidozie Awaziem while Ogenyi Onazi should start in midfield and also as the team captain.

In the absence of team captain, John Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi is expected to wear the captain armband

Shehu Abdullahi is favourite to start his second game under Gernot Rohr at right-back ahead of Tyronne Ebuehi who started against Corsica. Elderson Echiejile keeps his place in the left-back position.

A three-man midfield of Onazi, Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo might probably start the game, while Ahmed Musa who scored a brace against Togo, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho should start in a three-man attack.

The coach is expected to continue with his traditional 4-3-3 formation.

Daniel Akpeyi – Shehu Abdullahi, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Elderson Echiejile – Ogenyi Onazi (C), Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo – Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho.
