General manager Go Round FC Soni Uboh has hinted of a ploy to deny Go Round FC a place in the finals of the Rivers FA Cup.
Go Round FC won the Rivers State FA Cup last year beating the more fancied Rivers United in the final after full time ended 1-1 and Uboh believes forces are conspiring to ensure his side does not make it to the final.
Uboh speaking ahead of the quarter final clash between Go Round FC and Rivers United Academy on Wednesday hinted of a ploy to see two state sponsored sides make it to the final, same as in the days of Sharks and Dolphins in Rivers state.
“I want to disagree with the tag given to our opponents. I don’t think they are an under fifteen side. The team registered for the FA Cup is actually Rivers United Team B.
“They have a lot of players they signed for the League and could not register so they put them in that team that I call them Team B and not an academy,” Uboh said.
“It is probably a ploy by the Rivers United management or the Sports Commissioner to stop us from winning the Cup” added the irked manager.
This is not the first time Uboh has accused the State’s commissioners of influencing the FA Cup as Go Round only won last years edition following a three year self imposed exile from the competition after complaints of favouritism giving then Sharks and Dolphins football clubs undue advantage.
The Go Round boss believes a level playing field should be allowed to ensure only the best teams represent the state at the Federation Cup.
“I believe the best team should represent Rivers State and whether you call them academy or Team B, there should not be a ploy to stop us.
“We will show their Team B that we are a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian football. Some of them are good enough to feature for the Rivers United main team, but probably they couldn’t register them all,” Uboh added.
The game comes up at the Sharks FC stadium at 2pm on Wednesday.
