The Rivers State Government has confirmed the three match ultimatum given the Coach Stanley Eguma led technical crew to get Rivers United back in form or face sterner consequences.
The number one official of the state sports ministry at the moment, Permanent Secretary Sir Michael Nnodim gave the confirmation in a video chat with Rivers United Media.
Nnodim reveals that a two day session with players, officials, Supporters Club members and other stakeholders was held and decisions to help move Rivers United forward were reached by the sports ministry.
Nnodim says everyone at the meetings was given an opportunity to air his view and revelations made formed the basis of the decisions made.
Among the revelations made was infighting amongst officials of United’s management and technical crew.
A lack of focus and determination by players also came to the fore as players also complained of team selection based on favoritism as opposed to form by the technical crew.
Below is a transcript of Nnodim’s statement to Rivers United Media.
Over the period we have noticed that the performance of rivers United fc has been dwindling.
We started the season very well. We were in the Champions League, we lost out, we entered the Confederation Cup, we eventually lost out and we are now in the Nigeria Premier League.
We noticed that the performance has been coming down and the supporters, the fans and the stake holders are not happy so we decided to call a meeting of stakeholders.
Yesterday (Thursday) we met with the management and technical crew and representatives of the Supporters Club.
Today (Friday) we met with the players and the Supporters Club too were there, to iron out, to discuss on the issues, the causes of our dwindling performance.
Everybody spoke aired his views and we took some decisions.
One. We have resolved that every player should move to the camp. Those who are staying in hotels, those who are staying in their homes for now should move to the camp where everybody will stay together focus and ensure that victory comes our way.
We have also resolved that the technical crew in particular must select players based on performance not on favoritism because many players expressed that opinion that they have not been allowed to play because of favoritism.
We have also informed the technical crew to sit up. We have given them an ultimatum of three matches, to win those three matches for us or they will face serious sanctions.
We have also urged management to stop their infighting because that is one of the causes raised by the players that there is infighting amongst management.
