A brilliant first-half performance spurred Rivers United to a 2-1 win against Ugandan side KCCA in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United scored with their first shot on target in only the second minute after kick-off. A corner kick swung in by Bolaji Sakin ricocheted off Frederick Obomate with the ball falling kindly for Bernard Ovoke to bundle the ball into the net.
The Pride of Rivers soon increased their lead in the quarter-hour mark. This time Ovoke became the provider, chesting the ball for Obomate to side foot the ball home.
The visitors pulled a goal back in stoppage-time. Serunkuuma scoring from a poorly cleared ball inside the penalty box. The goal was the first conceded at home by Rivers United in CAF club competitions this season.
KCCA pressed their host in the second-half but failed to trouble Abiodun Akande in goal for Rivers United.
The Ugandans finished the game with 10-men, defender Kavuma was sent off on 89 minutes after receiving a second yellow card for a professional foul on Sakin.
Rivers United’s victory sees the Nigerian side record their second win in the group. Equal on six points with KCCA and FUS Rabat.
