Rivers United will arrive Rwanda capital, Kigali Thursday night ahead of the second-leg playoff match against Rayon Sports in the CAF Confederations Cup Naijafootballplus.com understands.
Nigeria’s only representative left in any of the CAF club competitions, Rivers United will arrive Kigali International airport at 9pm aboard a RwandAir flight from Lagos.
The Pride of Rivers hold a 2-0 lead ahead of the return leg scheduled to hold this Saturday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali and will hope the infamous calamitous 4-0 defeat suffered in Omdurman, Sudan in their last away fixture in the CAF Champions League against El Merriekh losing the tie 4-3 on aggregate does not repeat itself.
Ahead of the showdown, Captain of Rivers United, Festus Austine promised Nigerians that he and his teammates will not “disappoint Nigerians”.
“In Sudan we learnt a lot from the Sudan game because we never knew that a Sudanese side will defeat us 4-0 until after the game, so I think that can be a lesson to us. Today (last Sunday) we one 2-0 it is not a bad one but I strongly believe.
“I’ll go back and talk to my boys (his teammates) and I know we’ll get it right. We will not disappoint Nigerians we’re going to qualify for the group in Kigali,” Austine concluded.
