Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that Odion Ighalo is doubtful for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Cameroon on Monday.
Nigeria arrived Yaoundé 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon with 22 players after Aaron Samuel and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi were dropped.
The Changchun Yatai FC of China striker who scored the Super Eagles opening goal in the emphatic win last week Friday pulled a muscle in the game and he was replaced by Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
“Ighalo is doubtful and the medical team are still working on him, if he can’t play we will decide in the last moment. We have two options with Iheanacho and Anthony, I will like to keep the winning team but we have a situation with Ighalo and we don’t want to take any risk. We will like to introduce fresh players and consider the best for the team,” Rohr told Naijafootballplus.com in Yaoundé.
Cameroon will host Nigeria at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, the game will kickoff at 6pm on Monday. A win will secure the World Cup ticket for Nigeria.
The Franco-German coach believes Cameroon will play and fight for pride in front of their fans.
“We are here to secure a good result, we know it won’t be easy for us to win in Yaoundé. They (Cameroon) have to play for pride, they will have their family, friends and fans who will be at the stadium and they have to fight not to disappoint them again.
“They got a big slap in Nigeria and we are expecting them to make a revenge, we are looking forward to a new beginning with this game.
“We are expecting them to be aggressive, they are a physical side and we have prepared for a physical game. The stadium is big and the fans might come out in large numbers, we are ready for the game and the players have resolve to give their best,” Rohr added.
