Seven Nigerian players listed for CAF awards 


The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has listed seven Nigerian players for the upcoming CAF player of the year award in both male and female categories, reports.

The trio of Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa alongside striker Odion Ighalo were named in the comprehensive Men’s category which also included 31 other African players.

Al Nasr forward Musa has memorable World Cup where he netted two goals against Iceland while the duo of Arsenal midfielder Iwobi and Changchun Yatai striker were instrumental in Super Eagle qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ighalo who netted 21 league goals for Yatai in the Chinese Super League is still leading the race for the highest golas scorer in the ongoing AFCON 2019 qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons quartet of Asisast Oshoala, Onome Ebi, Desire Oparanozie and Fransisca Ordega were also listed for the player of the year in the female category.

Dalian forward Oshoala who is the current holder of the award will slug it out with 14 others for the coveted award.

South Africa Bayana Bayana striker Thembi Kgatlana is favorite to clinch the award after netting five goals in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana but will have to upstage Nigeria Oshoala when the two countries clash on Saturday in the final of the competition.
