Nigeria international Shehu Abdullahi has spoken of how honoured he is to have won the captains armband for Cypriot Premier League side Anorthosis Famagusta in a preseason friendly.
The former Kano Pillars midfielder has captained the Cypriot club in their last two preseason matches.
“I am honoured to captain Anorthosis Famagusta in the last two preseason matches. I think the coach is looking at some positive situation and I respect his decision to allow me lead the team,” Abdullahi said to Naijafootballplus.com from his club base in Cyprus.
“It was a great experience for me and I felt the responsibility to lead this wonderful team with huge history. Although, we have a capable team captain and I think the coach just gave me the platform to encourage and motivate me ahead of the new season.”
The Cypriot Premier League season will kickoff on August 19th. Anorthosis Famagusta will be visitors at Nea Salamis on the opening matchday.
“The preseason and preparations for the new season has been amazing for the team. We played couple of matches in Russia and Bulgaria, we are getting ready for the new season. The new season comes with different targets for the team,” Abdullahi added.
