National Women Soccer League side Washington Spirit suffered a home defeat to North Carolina Courage in the early hours of Sunday.

Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega was named in the starting line up for the visit of the Carolina team.

Mallory Pugh put Spirit in front earlier in the game but two quick goals from the duo of Crystal Dunn and McCall Zerboni gave the North Carolina Courage a 2-1 lead by the 24th minute.

Early in the second half, Zerboni added to the visitor’s lead scoring in the 48th minute with a close range shot past Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe for her second goal of the game.

Francisca Ordega helped reduce the tally in the 58th minute but any hope of a comeback was dashed when Lynn Williams seized upon a defensive slip up in the Spirit defense to put the game beyond them in the 66th minute ending the game 2-4.

Washington will return to action on Friday, April 20 on the road against Portland Thorns FC.
