Snippets from Super Eagles camp: Mikel out of Cameroon clash, 21 players ready


Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been ruled out of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 match against Cameroon on Saturday at the Alexandria Stadium, reports.

Mikel who suffered knocks on his right kneel against Madagascar missed today’s training after missing yesterday’s session. Team official has confirmed to that Mikel has been ruled out of weekend’s clash against the Cup Holders.

Gernot Rohr will have 21 players available for selection with Jamilu Collins back to full fitness, while Shehu Abdullahi continue with his return to full fitness.

Camp source revealed the Franco-German coach is not considering switching to 3-5-2 formation against Cameroon, but the coach is expected to stick with 4-3-3 formation but players set up might change.

Rohr is expected to make few changes in the starting line-up, Jamilu Collins might return to the line-up while Ola Aina will switch to the right-back. Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi favourites to start, while Rohr is yet to make a final decision between Odion Ighalo and Victor Osimhen.
