Nigerian born Everton starlet Ademola Lookman and Liverpool’s new boy Dominic Solanke was all on target as the junior Three Lions secured a vital win against Italy to book their place in the finals of the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
The Italians took the lead 3 minutes into the match when Ricardo Orsolini fired in a low cross from the left. England kept mounting pressure until the end of the first half with the scoreline in favour of the Italians.
The game changed early on in the second half when Nigeria’s Sheyi Ojo was introduced into the game. The Liverpool man proved to be the spark England needed when he provided a vital cross down the right hand corner for a tap in by Dominic Solanke to equalise for the junior Three Lions.
Sheyi Ojo kept causing problems for the Italian defence down the right hand corner, the Liverpool man floated in a cross that Ademola Lookman converted to hand England a 2:1 advantage in the 77th minute of the game.
The Italians pushed to get an equalizer but their efforts came to nought when Dominic Solanke completed his brace in the 88th minute of the game with a powerful drive from 25-yards to put the game beyond the reach of the Azurri’s
This victory means that England will be facing Venezuela in the final on Sunday for the title. Venezuela knocked out tournament favorites, Uruguay in a penalty shootout. This is the best an English team have gotten in a FIFA tournament in years.
