Super Eagles central defender William Troost Ekong was on target for Bursaspor Fc, but his team lost 1-2 to Fenerbahce in a late Super Lig game in Turkey.
Ekong scored in the 16th minute to open scores on the night and his first of the season, but the lead only lasted six minutes before the home side equalized via a penalty tucked away by midfielder Giuliano, before
Sousa completed the turn around with a 30th minute goal to hand them the advantage going into the break.
The second half failed to match the thrilling goal fest of the first stanza as both sides restricted themselves from causing further damage even though Fernebahce dominated proceedings.
Ekong 24′ who recently celebrated turning a dad, put up a full 90′ minutes solid display in the absence of his fellow Nigerian defender Shehu Abdullahi, who was not in the Buraspor travelling party.
Ekong will be pleased with his fine start to the season on a personal level, even though he would be disappointed his team failed to get something from the tie.
Up next for Ekong and Buraspor is a home tie against Kayserispor next week Saturday.
