The call for express invitation to La Liga young goalkeeping sensation Francis Uzoho to the Nigerian national team setup is gathering momentum since his debut for Deportivo La Coruna against Eibar on Sunday.
Uzoho, 18, kept a clean sheet in his first competitive debut for Deportivo, pulling up some important saves, but goalkeeper coach of the Super Eagles Alloy Agu will not join the frenzy for his immediate call up, but will prefer close monitoring ahead of a possible invitation with Algeria game to come next month.
”As long as he keeps playing and he’s on top of his game, of course he’ll get a call-up,” Agu said while speaking with allnigeriasoccer.com.
”We are looking for good hands that will make Nigeria proud and he’s a Nigerian, who said we won’t look at him.
Uzoho was a member of the Golden Eaglets squad at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, but was third choice behind Dele Alampasu and Abdulazeez Abubakar in coach Manu Garba’s list of goalkeepers.
But he has come a long way to get ahead of his colleagues with the senior team goalkeeper coach now monitoring his situation.
”We will monitor him, it’s good to hear, good to know. We will keep our radar on him and continue to monitor and pray for his progress.
”Honestly speaking, a Nigerian is entitled to play for Nigeria no matter wherever he is as long as he lives up to standards, I’ll keep monitoring him.” Alloy Agu concluded.
Francis Uzoho followed his 4 consecutive clean sheets for the Deportivo Lacoruna II team in the Secunda division with a clean sheet for the main senior team and is in line to be between the sticks next weekend.
