Super Falcons of Nigeria on Tuesday resumed camp in Abuja ahead of the four -nation invitational tournament in China. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Meizhou, China between January 17th to 20th 2019.
Seventeen players are currently in camp and commenced training today (Thursday) while five players are to join the squad in China.
Speaking exclusively to www.naijafootballplus.com, Super Falcons’ coach Thomas Dennerby, said majority of the players that played the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana will make the trip to China while Ini Umotong has been recalled to the team.
“Most of the players that were in AWCON last year will be in China, Ini Umotong will also join the team”.
Dennerby went on to say that this is not the time to be after results but rather the main aim of his team’s participation in the tournament is to get prepared and keep the team in good shape ahead of the world cup in June.
“Hopefully we expect to have a good performance in the tournament but this is not the time searching for results, It’s a preparatory tournament ahead of the World Cup for us,”.
The reigning African champions will face host China in the opener on January 17, while Romania tackles South Korea in the other tie. If Super Falcons defeats China, they will be facing the winner between Romania and Korea in the final on January 20.
